Tuberculosis is a notifiable disease in New Zealand and these reports use data available in EpiSurv, the national notifiable disease database as well as laboratory-based antimicrobial susceptibility and molecular typing data.
The most recent report is the 2020 annual report, released in 2023.
Universal molecular typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates was introduced in July 2002, conducted by LabPlus in Auckland under contract to the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited (ESR), with funding by the Ministry of Health. The primary audience for these reports is New Zealand TB practitioners including Medical Officers of Health, and respiratory and infectious disease physicians.
