Genomics Insights Report

The COVID-19 genomics insights dashboard (CGID) provides a public and high-level overview of viral genomic surveillance across Aotearoa, New Zealand. It aims to explain how whole genome sequencing (WGS) conducted here at ESR complements other epidemiological data to support public health decision making. As SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, continues to adapt, mutate, and spread, the CGID reports trends and insights gained by our WGS surveillance programme here in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad.

This dashboard (downloadable from this page as a PDF). Provides an overview of the weekly reporting that ESR (together with collaborators at Massey University, University of Auckland and University of Otago) provide to Ministries, Public Health Units and Ministers to monitor the ever-changing pandemic landscape.

The aim of genomic surveillance is not to ‘sequence every sample’, rather it is to obtain a representative sample from; community, hospitals and the border in order to provide the best possible science advice to decision makers. ESR, together with our partnership with the Ministry of Health, has developed and implemented both a rapid and world-leading genomic surveillance network.
