SHIVERS influenza (flu) and respiratory virus research

Led by ESR, SHIVERS (Southern Hemisphere Influenza and Vaccine Effectiveness Research and Surveillance) is a long series of research, aiming at improving the understanding of influenza and respiratory viruses and how to prevent their spread.

  • SHIVERS conducted during 2012-2017 is the first in its series (i.e. SHIVERS-I) in Auckland
  • SHIVERS-II is an adult cohort study in Wellington during 2018-2021
  • WellKiwis, the third of SHIVERS series (i.e. SHIVERS-III), is the infant cohort in Wellington during 2019-2026
