Ross is based at the Mt Albert Science Centre in Auckland. His main role is conducting regulatory inspections on behalf of the Office of Radiation Safety of facilities which use radiation such as dentists, vets, medical facilities, and industrial sites.

“Most of my work is meeting with clients and helping them to ensure that they are managing their radiation sources safely. We visit a wide variety of locations throughout the country which makes every visit unique” Ross says. “I typically visit locations in the upper North Island but spend most of my time in Auckland.” NCRS also has staff based in Christchurch and Wellington.

Ross also assists with training courses when they are held in Auckland. “We recently held a training workshop for regulatory inspectors from the Pacific Islands in conjunction with the International Atomic Energy Agency. We helped them to develop a regional action plan to more effectively manage the safety and security of their radiation sources.”
