Genomics Aotearoa

ESR is a partner in Genomics Aotearoa, a science platform supporting advanced genomics research.

Genomics is a fast-moving, dynamic research field that underpins a wide range of science of importance to New Zealand including health, the environment and primary production. ESR has expertise in genomics and bioinformatics, particularly in the areas of microbiology, human forensic science and some human non-communicable diseases. ESR’s genomic science encompasses metagenomics, RNA, epigenetics, microbiomics and other omics.

Genomics Aotearoa is an alliance between ESR and the Universities of Otago, Auckland and Massey, AgResearch, Landcare Research and Plant and Food, and 32 associate organisations including researchers and end users of genomics and bioinformatics. The alliance provides an agile, leading-edge collaborative platform of research on genomics that grows New Zealand’s capability, builds international connections, and develops tool and technologies that will support genomics researchers in delivering excellent and impactful science.

Currently in its establishment phase, in 2018, this new platform will have developed its research agenda and work programme.
